Description
Our Meditation and Yoga Stool is designed to promote comfort and relaxation in the zazen knelling position. Its base has 2 separate surface planes that contact the floor. The primary plane offers more contact for “rock-free” stability. If desired, the secondary plane is brought into play by sitting forward on the stool to increase the downward angle for greater comfort in some people.
In addition, the stool's contact points with the floor are lined with skid-resistant ribbon for better traction on wood and tile surfaces. This feature not only improves comfort, but reduces the amount of energy required to hold a sitting position over any period of time.
The seriously thought through angles of the seat surface encourages an erect and balanced posture for the back. One has to conclude that this stool could be used for more than meditation… and its light weight allows it to be carried easily around the home, and out to the garden or terrace.
The seat surface is shaped as an arched rectangle, and is 15” by 9”. The stool is offered in 2 median heights… Low/Medium (7 ¼”) and Tall (8 ½”). As a suggestion, the higher stool is likely to be more comfortable for people over 5’ 8” tall.
Our Meditation and Yoga Stool exhibits artisan grade craftsmanship. We realize that this piece comes at a premium price, but our goal was to design and build what we believe to be the best meditation and Yoga stool available... both in form and function. As with all Katahdin Studio Furniture, this stool is handcrafted at a level of "fine-furniture" quality by our master cabinetmakers to exacting standards.
All solid hardwood construction. Choice of cherry, walnut, birdseye maple, and combinations of these three woods. All wood is grown and harvested in the USA, and meticulously handcrafted at our workshop in Maine. Shown here in cherry with birdseye maple seat. All surfaces dressed with our traditional hand-rubbed oil finish.
